Ray Mangion

Ray Mangion was born on 24th October, 1955. He was born in Żurrieq and resides in the same village to this day. He was educated at Joseph Secondary Technical School at Paola.

In the sixties he participated in several song festivals representing District 4. In 1973 at 18 years of age, he emigrated to England and after 4 years he achieved his permanent residence and becoming a British Citizen. Following the legality as a British Citizen, Ray embarked on a full-time course at the Merseyside Dance and Drama College in Liverpool, followed by Rada in London. After three years he graduated in 1978 as a qualified dancer, actor, singer and acheieved AISTD qualification; a Diploma for teaching dancing and drama.

Following his qualification Ray achieved his Full Equity Membership and ended up in the West End of London where his debut as a professional performer commenced with a three and a half years contract in Evita. Below are some of his successes in the UK:

He returned to Malta in 1995 with his wife Alison. Oliver, born in Malta with severe deformities on all four limbs. Ray started using his own initiative by raising much needed funds for his treatment abroad which included: ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ and ‘The Sound of Music’ held at Mediterranean Conference Centre. Ray was also given the opportunity to show his talent among the Maltese where he took part as a leading actor in Żeża tal Flagship, Jisimni Katarina , Ineż Farruġ. Through huge demand by the general public, he continued putting on many musicals including :

Apart from all the above Ray had created the best Children`s Choir in that era 1996 - 2004 – The Malta Children`s Choir 110 in number, and opened Theatre Art School in Valletta for a number of years.

Ray also participated in films such as Gladiator and Agora. His latest achievement is a leading role in a Historical Docudrama to be filmed in Malta in April and May 2018.

Ray has also taken part in all TV stations in Malta gaining his reputation as judge in numerous Talent Contests viewings such as Don`t Stop me Now! . His latest has been the Chairman of Judges in San Remo Junior Malta in 2017 and 2018.

His wish now, that his son has become almost independent, is to re-kindle his acting career back in the UK.
